Nice location. Outdoor dining on the lake. Food is solid. Service was good. A little pricey for the quality but it is a seasonal establishment. Park across the street and walk down. Small boat dock for parking if you boat in.
This is disappointing given how nice the restaurant was in better times. We enjoyed coming in the past. I believe it has changed owners. Given this horrible visit, we are not heading back. Ever.
We had an ad experience at this restaurant. As a family of 6 we arrived at 6:40 on a Wednesday night. Service was awful. We waited about 10 minutes just to put in a drink order. Not only do they have no liquor license but they won't allow patrons to bring their own. They gave some excuse about that not being allowed while they are trying to get their license. If the wait for putting in a drink order was long, the wait for food was worse. At no time did we hear an apology. The food was less than enjoyable. Several members of our table ordered a smoked trout dish. The trout was not smoked and not good. Another order included lobster. They added minimal lobster on a cheap pile of fries. Even the kids pasta was unpleasant. To top it off, the restaurant added a 21.5% gratuity. When I inquired they replied that they add that tip to any party of 6 or more. Who's ever heard of a required gratuity on a party of 6?! When I asked, it was removed.
If you like warm beer and kale salad that is mostly spinach this is your place. Plus you can enjoy the 40 minute wait for a box and a bill/check.
The old dock seems to be in flux in recent years. I visit Essex several times a year and I've yet to find consistency when I've stopped for meals at this place, at least in the past two years. Some meals have been good, some bad, and there seems to be no way to predict how your visit will go. I wish they could dial it in, as I do enjoy dining outside next to the dock, have had great meals here in the past, and would like to see small business thrive in such a small town.
So far so good, pulled my boat to a slip and spending the night with wife and 2 kids. No charge. Dinner was great and views were excellent.
Stopped at old dock again on aug20. Very nice dinner and enjoy having a slip and destination for our boat trip.
